The perfect car for getting about in the city, the Volkswagen up! brings you chic urban styling and excellent manoeuvrability for negotiating narrow bends and challenging parking spaces, with its light steering and tight turning circle.
A recent facelift has brought a new on-trend look to the Volkswagen up! There are five trim levels, starting with the Take up!, followed by the Move up!, up! ‘Beats’, High up! and the e-up!, the electric vehicle addition to the range.
The Move up! offers you a choice of styles in 15-inch alloy wheels, as well as body-coloured door mirrors and handles. Distinctive 15-inch alloy wheels with either red or black caps, enhance the look of the up! ‘Beats’ trim, which also has red or black door mirrors, and a silver decal. The e-up! has a high specification, including a rear parking sensor, LED daytime running lights and tinted rear glass for a sophisticated look, as well as the practical benefit of adding heat insulation.
The cabin is surprisingly spacious and comfortable for a compact city car. The entry-level Take up! has electric front windows, remote central locking, and driver’s seat height adjustment. If you upgrade to the next level, Move up! you also get manual air conditioning, while higher trim options are fitted with climate control. At the top of the range, the High up! gives you heated seats and a leather steering wheel.
The up! is available in three different power outputs from its three-cylinder petrol engine, 59bhp, 74bhp and 89bhp. There are both manual and automatic transmission options, with BlueMotion technology available to enhance fuel efficiency further. Opt for the 59bhp five-speed manual version with three doors, and you will get a return of 68.9mpg and CO₂ emissions of just 105g/km. The fastest of the up! models is the 1.0-litre turbo charged 89bhp three-door manual edition, which will move you from 0-60mph in only 9.9 seconds. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, opt for the new e-up!, an all-electric version, which has a range of up to 99 miles on a full charge.
Safety features fitted as standard in the up! include ABS, ESC, tyre pressure monitoring, and an unfastened seatbelt alert for front and back seats. The e-up! gives you the added benefit of City Emergency Braking.
The High up! and e-up! both feature a satellite navigation system linked to your smartphone, so you can easily find your way to your next destination. A DAB radio with six speakers is fitted as a minimum, while the up! ‘Beats’ has a special sound system with two woofers in the pillars, as well as a subwoofer in the spare wheel well.
