Practical, durable and cheap to run, the Toyota Yaris supermini takes city life very much in its stride. The most recent version has been facelifted for an improved design, and comes with a good range of trim levels and equipment.
Despite a clear focus on providing an economical and reliable city car, Toyota has not cut any corners with the Yaris’s design. Its exterior is compact and understated, and benefits from attractive upright lines and a defined front end. The car’s large side windows and broad rear screen maximise driving visibility too for a great command of the road. Entry-level Active trim comes equipped with daytime running lights and heated door mirrors, while higher-spec trims add alloy wheels, rear LED lights and front and rear power windows.
Step inside the Yaris and you’ll find an interior that rivals any car in its class for space and comfort. The high cabin, upright seating and generous head and legroom for the driver and passengers ensure relaxing drives, while the Yaris’s array of storage compartments nicely complements longer journeys. The dashboard features attractive round controls that are well-sited, while a fully adjustable steering column is standard across all trims.
The Toyota Yaris offers a solid range of engines, which are available with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The 1.0-litre 69bhp petrol is perfectly capable around town, but for more power pick the 1.33-litre petrol, which offers a nice balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The 1.4-litre diesel is the range’s most powerful, and goes from 0-60mph in around eleven seconds. For a smooth, quiet and economical performance, go for the 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine. It returns a sizeable 81mpg at the pumps and generates just 75g/km of CO2 emissions.
Technology and safety
Standard from Icon trim, the Yaris offers Toyota’s seven-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system, which fits seamlessly into the dashboard and is straightforward to use. You also have the option to upgrade the system to include a navigation tool which displays 3D images of your route’s most important features. You can also add a mobile hotspot, which keeps you connected at all times while you drive.
The Yaris was awarded a full five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, and features seven airbags, tyre pressure monitors and Toyota child-restraint seats with secure fixings. An optional Parking Pack is available too, which uses front and rear sensors to guide you safely into, or out of, any parking space.
Motorline offers the new Toyota Yaris at each of its authorised Toyota dealerships, which are located across Kent, West Sussex, the South West, the South-West Midlands and Wales.
