The Kodiaq is a full-size SUV from ŠKODA that is practical, provides lots of passenger and cargo space and is very well-equipped. This formidable cruiser also handles well, delivers a smooth ride and comes in S, SE, SE L and Edition trim lines.
The impressive-looking Kodiaq possesses an assertive stance and an eye-catching beltline crease, above which swoops a tapering roofline. The vehicle rides on stylish, lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels too. Labour-saving fixtures include electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, which come complete with integrated indicator lights. More standard illumination includes LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps and LED tail lights. Even the vehicle’s smart rear spoiler features an integrated LED brake light.
The Kodiaq is as big on the inside as its exterior dimensions suggest. It comfortably seats five adults, and if more passenger capacity is needed, an extra (third) row is available with SE grades and upwards. As with its body, this SUV’s cabin is well made, finished to a high standard and comes with a wide range of features.
Included are KESSY Go, which enables the engine to be started without inserting a key, and air conditioning that helps to maintain the temperature of the cabin. Also featured are 60/40 split folding rear seats, facilitating the easy expansion of cargo space. Boot volume stands at 720 litres, which is more than enough to contain the spoils of a big shopping trip or the luggage required to go on an extended holiday. However, if more room is needed, an immense 2,005 litres is available, which is greater than that offered by equivalent models produced by Nissan, Kia or BMW.
A 1.4-litre 123bhp petrol engine is installed as standard. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, this produces 200Nm of torque, up to 46.3mpg and a 139g/km CO2 emissions figure. If you require optimal power, a 2.0-litre 190bhp unit is the solution, delivering 400Nm and 0-60mph in approximately 9.3 seconds. The greenest option is another 2.0-litre diesel engine. This one produces 150bhp and 340Nm of torque, while returning as much as 56.5mpg and emissions as low as 131g/km.
Technology and safety
The Kodiaq’s infotainment system comes with DAB radio, which delivers a wide range of stations in pin-sharp audio quality. A 6.5-inch touchscreen is included as standard too, as are Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, which provide integration with compatible smartphones.
All models come with an extensive range of safety features, such as Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control and a seven-airbag system. Also featured is Autonomous Emergency Braking, which warns against potential collisions and applies brake pressure automatically if an accident cannot be avoided.
