COVID-19 advice:

HOW DO I RENEW MY CAR'S TAX IF ITS MOT HAS EXPIRED?

Although the government has extended MOT's for six months, your car tax must still be paid.

We have had a number of customers get in touch to ask about how they can tax their vehicle without an MOT?

As you may be aware, the government has said that MOT's can be extended for six months, but there is little advice available online to explain how to tax your vehicle, if it has not completed it's MOT test.

Even though your car's MOT has been automatically extended, in order to get the official records for it updated you need to email covid19mot@dvsa.gov.uk , stating the date the MOT expires and the car’s registration number.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will then update the records for your car. Once this has been done you will be able to buy car tax online in the usual way. You can check if the MOT has been extended at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

We hope this helps, but if you any other questions, just email us at stayhome@motorline.co.uk and we'll do our best to help you.
