One of the most popular models in the Volkswagen line-up, the Polo just keeps getting better and better. Since its launch in 1975, the Polo has seen many changes and enhancements, but always retains a style all of its own. It is no surprise that the Polo has won many awards over the years, including recently the Supermini of the Year 2016 from Auto Express.
Sporty yet robust, the Volkswagen Polo combines style and practicality in its compact dimensions. The Polo is available as a three-door or five-door hatchback, with a wide range of trim options, starting with the S level and rising through to the GTI performance edition. Body-coloured bumpers from the entry-level S and up add to the sleek look, while the Match trim also features stylish front fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels. The BlueMotion edition has a special streamlined look with its aerodynamic styling for enhanced fuel economy.
The cabin is carefully designed to make sure that everything you need is ready at your fingertips. There is seating for five, and variable load floors in the boot and split folding rear seats give plenty of flexibility for creating additional storage space when you need it.
Air conditioning is provided on several models, including the Polo S A/C edition, while the SEL edition gives added luxury and comfort with its central armrest, leather multifunction steering wheel and cruise control.
Engine choices for the Polo include the 1.0-litre, 1.2-litre, 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre petrol engines, as well as the 1.4-litre diesel model. Whether you are most interested in low running costs or high performance standards, you will find something to suit you in the Polo line-up. The petrol BlueMotion versions return 67.3mpg, while the 1.4-litre TDI can deliver up to 80mpg. The fastest engine in the range belongs to the Polo GTI, with its 1.8-litre TSI petrol manual edition, which can travel from 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds.
The entry level S has front and side airbags, ESC, and automatic post-collision braking technology. Driver Alert is available on some editions to identify erratic movements by the driver and send audio and visual alarms to make the driver aware of it.
Bluetooth and a USB connection are fitted as standard, and the touchscreen system in the centre of the dashboard puts you in control of your infotainment. If music is a priority for you, opt for the Polo ‘Beats’ edition, which gives you a 300-watt audio system, as well as the ‘Beats’ themed styling both inside and out.
