Infiniti’s sporty compact crossover delivers great performance combined with assertive good looks and an upmarket interior. Sharing a platform with the Mercedes A-Class, the Q30 is a strong rival to the Audi A3 and the Mercedes GLA.
The Q30 is an instant head-turner with its distinctive blend of curves and angles. There are five trim levels available, and standard equipment is impressive even on the entry level SE. The generous grille and slimline stylised headlamps make a bold statement at the front, and the Premium edition adds stylish LED front fog lamps. Upgrading to the Premium Tech trim will earn you LED auto level headlamps. 18-inch alloy wheels in a double-spoke design are fitted on both the SE and Premium editions, sitting beneath wheel arches finished in black lacquer. The range-topping Sport and Sport InTouch get a more muscular look with chunky bumpers, lower suspension, and 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with run flat tyres.
Inside the cabin is plush, with premium materials throughout. The Premium Tech edition goes one step further with Nappa leather seat coverings and wood trims in the doors and the centre console. The Q30 may be the smallest in the Infiniti line-up, but there is ample space inside to seat five in comfort. Power front seats with an adjustment memory function are fitted in the Premium Tech editions, while the Sports trim adds sport designed front seats. The SE gets manual air conditioning as standard, and the Premium trim and up are fitted with automatic air conditioning with dual-zone climate control.
You can choose from a 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Diesel options are also available as either a 1.5-litre turbo or 2.2-litre unit. 1.5-litre and 1.0-litre engines are available with either an automatic or manual gearbox, while the larger engines are only available with automatic transmission and all wheel drive. The diesel engines give you the best return on your fuel, with the 1.5-litre option delivering 67.3mpg and the 2.2-litre doing 57.5mpg on a combined cycle. CO₂ emissions are as low as 109g/km and 129g/km respectively.
Seven airbags are fitted as standard, including a driver’s knee airbag, as is forward collision warning and stop technology. The Premium trim and up get a lane departure warning system. Other safety features available include hill-start assist, adaptive brake assist, electronic parking brake, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
All models feature a radio, a CD player and a touchscreen infotainment system as standard across the range. Active noise cancellation is fitted on the 2.2-litre diesel to allow you to make the most of your sound system.
