Heralding a new era for the manufacturers and setting a new standard for SUVs, the new Hyundai Kona is here. Attractive, powerful and packed with capability, it is bound to turn heads and deliver both in the city and off the beaten track. The Kona will be available in the UK from the 2nd of November, with prices starting from £16,195.
Sleek, wide and low, the Hyundai Kona is a breath of fresh air in the SUV market thanks to its innovative exterior design that is built around meaningful details: the wheel sills and arches are surrounded by attractive cladding, with the overall look gaining a bit of practicality thanks to the roof bars. Unique is also a key word in the Kona identity: the Premium GT’s LED headlights coupled with the LED daytime running lights above give an illusion of attractive twin headlights. The new Hyundai Kona imposes a new standard for SUV design.
The Hyundai Kona’s interior was designed to emphasize practicality and visual appeal. Leg and head room is generous, allowing passengers to feel comfortable and relaxed all times. For when large loads need to be carried, an impressive 361 litres of luggage can fit in the boot, or even up to 1,143 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The sleekly contoured surfaces and coloured surfaces available in Red, Lime or Orange will let you know that you are always driving in style.
Though its lower stance may be reminiscent of the sportier regular passenger cars, the Hyundai Kona is an SUV through and through thanks to its high ground clearance and raised seating positions. Available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions, both options have their own advantages. The two-wheel drive version ensures a sporty and comfortable drive thanks to its high-stiffness torsion beam, while the four-wheel drive system on the Premium GT can automatically send up to 50% of torque to the rear wheels whenever tough road conditions are a problem.
Currently available with petrol engines of either 1.0l and 120PS or 1.6l and 177PS, from 2018, the Kona will also be offered with Hyundai’s new generation of 1.6-litre diesel engines. Delivering 54.3 mpg in its basic trim and carbon emissions that are as low as 117g/km, the Hyundai Kona will save you money with every mile.
Technology and safety
All Kona trims benefit from a DAB radio and Bluetooth capability. With three infotainment systems to choose from – from a simple 5’’ TFT screen to an 8’’ touchscreen that can provide you with 3D maps – the Hyundai Kona will keep you in touch with your other devices and never bored. A Krell audio system that is available with the Kona Premium and more advanced trims, features exceptional sound quality thanks to eight speakers scattered inside the SUV.
Rugged and imposing, the Hyundai Kona is as safe as it looks, thanks in no small part to the host of systems available inside. In addition to the standard set of six airbags, the Kona has numerous features that will ensure your peace of mind. Standard on all trims are the Hill Start Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control, High Beam Assist and Driver Attention Alert that help you in real-time to correct potentially dangerous steering, while the more premium trims feature technology such as Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert that always look wherever you can’t.
