Quality and value combine in the Dacia Sandero – a budget small car with plenty of style. This five-door supermini is more spacious and more practical than anything else in its class, and it has the lowest price point, too.
Exterior designFluid lines and a curvaceous body define the Sandero’s exterior styling. Dacia’s trademark honeycomb grille, coupled with double optic front headlights with LED daytime running lights, are modern and energetic. Stand-out fog lights on the front bumper and the lower number plate characterise the car’s sturdy nature. Meanwhile, the four-bulb rear light design also leaves a lasting impression at the back. 15-inch alloys on the entry-level Access add a touch of class, while body-coloured bumpers on the mid-range Ambiance are a nice touch.
The large cabin is one of the principal highlights of the ever-practical Sandero. Generous boot space stands at 320 litres, which rises to a class-leading 1,200-litre load capacity when you fold the rear seats completely flat. This may be a supermini, but the Sandero can carry five adults in total comfort with room to spare. Robust materials feature throughout, along with carefully considered extras such as large door bins and cupholders for additional stowage. Upgrade to the range-topping Laureate to get a stylish leather gearknob and cool dark carbon Indite cloth upholstery.
Your ride is further enhanced with soft suspension, while impressive three-cylinder turbo-charged engines promise to deliver every time. The engine range includes a 1.0-litre 74bhp SCe 75 and a 0.9-litre 90bhp TCe 90 petrol unit. There’s also an 89bhp 1.5-litre dCi 90 diesel engine – the most economical choice, offering returns of 80.7mpg combined. This may be a value-for-money vehicle, but there’s no need to compromise on performance.
Technology and safety
Safety and security are top priorities on-board the Sandero. You can expect ABS and emergency brake assist as standard, along with rear-door child locks, electronic stability control and traction control for total peace of mind. ISOFIX points also make child-seat installation straightforward. The mid-range Ambiance trim features Bluetooth technology to keep you connected on the go. For a touch of luxury, go for the Laureate model, with air conditioning, cruise control and a high-tech touchscreen with satellite navigation.
